Hungry Ghosts United Meditation Retreat-For Everyone in Recovery-February 18-21st, 2022

  • Forest Retreat Center 9010 453rd Street East Eatonville, WA, 98328 United States (map)

Hungry Ghosts United is a meditation based addiction recovery society that uses mindfulness meditation practice as a foundational element of our daily recovery practice. In our groups we teach anyone who walks in the door how to meditate to end addiction. This is our first chance to offer our Hungry Ghosts United meditation practice in an extended retreat setting to everyone in recovery. Wether you are a member of HGU, are in 12 step recovery, or are attending a buddhist recovery group and want to learn how to meditate specifically for your recovery, you are invited to this unique retreat event…

Hungry Ghosts United founding member and teacher Rachael Savage, with over thirty years of recovery, fifteen years of meditation teacher training in the Tibetan and Theravadan traditions and four years of experience teaching at residential silent meditation retreats, will lead this retreat.

Extended meditation retreat conditions allow us to gain a deeper experience of mindfulness and the heart practices expanding our potential for recovery. To support the development of a collected and settled mind, this meditation retreat will be held in Noble Silence. Your teacher will give instructions in the practice of Noble Silence. Our retreat schedule for this Hungry Ghosts United retreat will include meditation instruction, talks, sitting and walking meditations, opportunities to meet with the teacher. In the evening sessions you will hear Hungry Ghosts United speakers and have a chance to share your recovery and meditation experience.

Our forest retreat center is located in Eatonville, WA near Mount Rainier National Park in a 4,000 acre Douglas Fir forest. 90 minutes from downtown Seattle and one hour from the Seattle-Tacoma airport. With trails throughout the old-growth forest and into a deep gorge with a series of waterfalls, there are many opportunities for mindful contemplation and movement.

ADDITIONAL 2022 RETREAT INFORMATION :

This retreat is capped at thirty five participants in order to offer distanced dorm accommodations and to distance in the large Dharma Hall.

This retreat is for people who are already in recovery seeking to learn meditation or to deepen an existing meditation practice. Everyone attending this recovery retreat is required to be abstinent from all drugs and alcohol for thirty days prior to the retreat. This includes anyone attending whose primary addiction is to a process or behavior. In Hungry Ghosts United we believe mindfulness is impossible without abstinence from all intoxicants.

In line with WA State guidelines for overnight camps we are requiring everyone attending to certify when registering and to provide proof on-site that they have received and gone through both vaccine rounds and both 14 Day waiting period rounds.

WA has been cautious throughout and we have confidence in the guidance from Olympia.

We will follow all WA State guidelines at the time of the retreat.

If we are in either Phase 3 or Phase 4 as expected we will be following state guidelines and not be requiring masking in the Dharma Hall, or in the Dining Hall or in the retreat common areas.
